Year 4

Welcome back to the summer term. We are very much looking forward to warmer, drier weather. No 'snow days' have been planned even though they were much welcomed by the children.

This term, we will continue with our visits to Freshfields as part of the Archie Project; we will also continue to host visits from the residents to the school. Ten children will be attending the annual Dementia Conference at the Plymouth Guildhall to join other schools and residents from four local care homes to sing a few songs.

From week commencing April 30th, we will be joined in the year group by our two BEd students -Miss Sainsbury and Mr Waite- who are planning ( among other exciting activities) a 3-day block of Art work leading to an exhibition of the children's work

Summer Curriculum

On the 23rd of April, children in Year 4 celebrated St George's Day by learning about St George; writing related poems ( which were amazing) and making dragons from paper plates. In the afternoon, we all thoroughly enjoyed our cream tea.

Photos of our day are below.

Space Dome Visit

On the 7th March, the space dome visited the school. The children had a fantastic experience learning about our solar system and the thousands of stars which we can see at night.

It's not often we have snow in soggy, old Plymouth. The children in Year 4 had a snowastic playtime to enjoy the experience.

The Year 4 children and staff had a wonderful time this morning, creating poppies with four of our lovely residents from Freshfields: Marion (who will be 100 years old in January); Beryl; Liz and Maggie. The residents absolutely loved their time here with the children and the children had a great time with the residents- as you can see from the photos below. As always, the children were amazing: calm, respectful, fantastic helpers and excellent listeners. Well done everyone.

Parents and Carers,

Please note the change of dates for our class visits to Freshfields:

4CT - 1.30 Tuesday 31st October

4LS- 1.30 Tuesday 14th November

Welcome to the start of Year 4. We all hope that everyone has had a fantastic summer holiday.

The Year 4 team this year are Class Teachers Miss Sharp and Mrs Thompson and Teaching Assistants Mrs Hurrell, Mrs Smith and Mrs Edwards. Please feel free to come and chat to us about any concerns that you may have, at any time throughout the year.

We would like to invite any parents who have some spare time to join us at school to support children with their reading and spelling. If you are able to help us in anyway at all, we would be very grateful.

We will be continuing our links with Freshfields care home as part of our commitment to the Archie Project which is an inter-generational project which aims to raise awareness of Dementia. The children will take part in several visits to Freshfields throughout the year- singing to the residents, reading with them and just generally enjoying some social time. In return, some residents will visit the school on occasion to take part in activities with the children or join us for special assemblies and celebrations. This project was hugely popular with our children last year and we are confident that our new Year 4 children will derive the same enjoyment from it.
