This year, we are celebrating ‘World’ Book Day on the last day of term: Thursday 24th March.
We are asking children to pay £1:00 to dress up as their favourite book in a simple sandwich-board style of their own making. Each class, will select three winners and these ‘sandwich-board books’ will then be used as part of our Book Corner and Library displays.
The money collected will be donated to Book Aid International, who provide books for schools in Africa. Without this organisation, many children in Africa will never see or read a book in their childhood.
There will be a variety of non-curricular activities for children to enjoy throughout the day; teachers will give you more information about these nearer the time.
But why should the children have all the fun? Parents, if you would like to get involved, come along in the afternoon (with your own sandwich-board book), bring your favourite, children’s story book and read it to your child and a group of their friends.
We have issued the children with their £1 book token (valid from Monday 29th February–Sunday 27th March 2016). They can take it to a participating bookshop and swap it for one of ten (exclusive, new and completely free) £1 World Book Day books! Or, if you’d prefer, they can use their book token to get £1 off any full price book instead! For further details and a list of the ten books available, visit the World Book Day website: http://www.worldbookday.com/
