Foundation Unit

Welcome to the Foundation Unit class page!

Here you will find copies of our unit newsletters and dates for your diaries!

Our Foundation Stage consists of two class Noah’s Ark (Nursery) and Dove Class (Reception). We accept children from the age of 2 years, right up until the end of Foundation Stage (5 years old).

Ms Kendall is our class teacher.

All resources are available for children to take off the shelves and explore, this way they can experiment with interesting ways of using them! Each week there are a range of hands on, engaging activities set up for the children to do, the ideas change through the week as the children develop their ideas. Alongside this, we have large loose parts outside such as wooden planks and guttering - the children can work together to create different structures; one day they could become a road, the next a castle!

As well as our lovely classroom, we have the use of our own outdoor space just for Foundation children, and we also access other areas of the school grounds. We also make good use of our beautiful local surroundings by visiting places such as St Budeaux CE Church and Kings Tamerton Woods.

Our Curriculum

Children in Foundation Unit will learn through practical, fun and engaging tasks and play opportunities guided by Development Matters. We focus on the prime areas of development first before working on the specific areas and then the Early Learning Goals.

Phonics - We teach daily phonics through the Read, Write, Inc (RWI) programme. Children will take home books matched to their phonic ability and will be regularly assessed to ensure progression is made or to identify further support that may be required.

How to pronounce RWI sounds
